The legendary Saline Oktoberfest Wiener Dog Races are back!

We're calling all speedy sausages, low-riding legends, ambitious little hot dogs, and dachshunds who have absolutely no idea they're about to participate in an athletic competition.

Fast wieners? Welcome.

Slow wieners? Welcome.

Wieners who have trained extensively for this moment? Impressive.

Wieners whose race strategy is run six feet, get distracted, turn around, find Mom?

Honestly, our favorite.

The races are open to Dachshunds and Dachshund-mix breeds, and whether your little athlete is competing for glory or simply hoping to make it across the finish line, we want them on North Ann Arbor Street.

Because history doesn't remember the dachshunds who stayed home.

Yes. You read that correctly.

Michelle Crandall of Pets in Focus, a Tecumseh-based pet photographer, will be joining us with an appropriately wiener-sized Wienermobile for a photo opportunity we didn't know we needed until now.

And frankly, we may never recover.

Wienermobile Photo Session:

• $25 when purchased in advance with your race registration
• $35 on race day

📝 Registration Info

• Pre-registration: $10 per racer
• Proceeds benefit Saline Main Street, the independent nonprofit organization working to keep downtown Saline vibrant, welcoming, and thriving.
• Proof of current rabies vaccination is required. Acceptable documentation includes a veterinarian-issued rabies certificate or dog-license receipt. Documentation may be uploaded with your registration.

🐶 Race Day Rules & Guidelines

We're here for controlled chaos—not actual chaos. To keep our racers, handlers and spectators safe:

• Two handlers per dog are required: one at the starting line and one at the finish line.
• Dogs must be kept on a 6-foot or shorter leash whenever they are not racing.
• We strongly recommend that dogs are current on all vaccinations and wear an identification tag.
• Clean-up is your responsibility. Please bring bags and be a good neighbor.
• Dogs must be well-socialized and comfortable around other dogs and people.
• Dogs in heat may not participate.
• Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
• Aggressive or visibly unhealthy dogs will be asked to leave for everyone's safety.
• No food—human or canine—or additional pets are permitted on the racetrack.
• Racers may be motivated with a small toy, up to 8 inches.
• Excessive confidence from your dachshund is permitted and, frankly, expected.

📜 Waiver of Liability

By entering the Wiener Dog Races, I acknowledge that participation may carry risks for both me and my dog. I confirm that we are medically and physically able to participate, and I assume full responsibility for any risks or incidents that may occur.

By registering, I hereby waive and release Saline Main Street, its Board of Directors, and the City of Saline from all claims or liabilities of any kind, including injury or death, arising from participation in this event. I agree that I, and any representatives acting on my behalf, will not hold the event organizers responsible.
